RITCHIE BLACKMORE Clone Blocked From Jamming With DEEP PURPLE
November 7, 2005RAINBOW fan site The Rainbow Fanclan Legacy has posted the following report from two fans who attended DEEP PURPLE's November 1 headlining show at Credicard Hall [in] São Paulo, Brazil:
Fan #1: "Backstage after the [DEEP PURPLE] show [at the venue] we saw a guy called Eduardo (who plays guitar in a DEEP PURPLE cover band and is a real Ritchie Blackmore clone) enter the band's dressing room, where Ian Paice [PURPLE drummer] knelt and Bruce Payne [PURPLE manager] made the sign of the cross! It was a hilarious scene."
Fan #2: "There is a guy who plays in the best tribute band in Brazil (PURPLEMANIA) and he looks like Ritchie in his [mid-20s]. He went backstage too on November 1 and Bruce Payne (maybe drunk, not sure) promised him he was going to play with the band the next night.
"He went with his guitar to the venue and was said that [Ian] Gillan [PURPLE frontman] didn't allow it. He was told by Payne that all had agreed the night before. Very weird situation.
"Just before the encore ('Black Night'),Gillan had a talk with Payne on stage (left),maybe telling him not to allow Edu to come on stage. A pity. Edu is a Blackmore afficionado and plays very well. It would be funny for a moment seeing both on stage."
